This catalog was created as part of Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art's southwestNET series in the summer of 2019.

This small but mighty catalog highlights new works made in 2019 by the Los Angeles based artist Shizu Saldamando. Through intimate and provocative paintings, drawings, and video, Saldamando presents a contemporary take on portraiture that explores and challenges the constructs of identity. She works from informal snapshots of friends and family, focusing on often-overlooked communities of color: punks, queers, activists, and artists. This catalog comes with an introduction written by curator and director of SMoCA, Jennifer McCabe, a prologue by writer Raquel Guiterrez, a bio about Shizu, photographs of up close artwork and gallery views.
