Because We Are Black tells the story of how Black Americans have suffered persistent economic inequality in the United States due to centuries of racism, discrimination and the long-lasting effects of slavery. While many authors have told this story and told it well, Because We Are Black goes beyond telling Black Americans’ inequality story by providing the reader with a viable solution. This solution involves exposing the fundamental reasons why White power brokers feel it necessary to keep as many Black people disenfranchised financially as possible. These foundational reasons involves (1) psycho-social developmental theory and (2) an imagined scarcity mentality paradigm. Because We Are Black provides a detailed analysis of how these two entities operating together within the dominant culture result in racist acts and hoarding of financial resources. Understanding and utilizing Spiral Dynamics and the abundance mentality paradigm, a new social and political order can be devised so as to resolve the financial inequality issue for Black Americans. The modern Civil Rights movement has proven that when Black Americans gain relief, all Americans enjoy a better life.
